The University of Debrecen has joined a prestigious international scientific training program. This year, the institution organized the 2025 Redox Chemistry/Biochemistry Graduate Summer Course for the first time. Twenty-one internationally recognized researchers in the field gave lectures at the five-day conference, and the most outstanding PhD students from partner institutions presented their research.

The University of Debrecen and the University of Central Florida signed a framework agreement for joint pharmaceutical, medical and health science research, as well as in the fields of informatics and sports, at the 5th Hungarian Summit, a conference supporting American-Hungarian cooperation, in Debrecen. The leaders of the two institutions plan to further strengthen their cooperation through collaborations between professors, students and researchers.

A delegation from the University of Debrecen participated in the China (Ningbo) - Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation Forum and signed strategic cooperation agreements with leading Chinese institutions at the end of May. The visit by Vice-Rector General Károly Pető and László Stündl, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, will establish long-term scientific and educational partnerships with Zhejiang Wanli University and Zhejiang Pharmaceutical University.

The topic of opening new areas of partnership between the University of Debrecen and a number of institutions of higher education in the state of Indiana, the United States of America, was in the focus of discussions between Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales and Rector Zoltán Szilvássy recently. A range if further topics at their meeting included new international cooperation channels used by our university as well as corporate relations cultivated by our institution.

The University of Debrecen was named University of the Year in the student-friendly category at the first-ever awards gala, where Chancellor Zoltán Bács received a special ministerial prize for his professional work. At the ceremony, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation honored Hungarian universities in as many as eight categories.

The University of Debrecen and the Department of Health and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Medical Directorate General under the jurisdiction of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan have recently signed a cooperation agreement on medical drug development, research, quality control and practical training. Following the act of officially signing the document, a delegation from this Central Asian country visited several research units of our university.

This year, in the Hungarian round of the international competition of the leading nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, the students’ task was to develop a digital patient management system in 24 hours. The University of Debrecen hosted the Global Hackatom Hungary in Nuclear Medicine event, where one of the teams from the host institution finished on top and will thus represent our country in the international finals in the autumn.

It was the Portuguese city of Porto that hosted this year’s CARPE international symposium between the 14th and the 16th of May, which a delegation of twenty-two representatives from the University of Debrecen attended, headed by László Csernoch, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. Our institution joined CARPE, (Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education) in 2015, which had been established by a group of universities with a strong profile in applied research in 2011.

Several PhD students and young specialists from the University of Debrecen presented their research findings at the event called European Workshop for Rheumatology Research (EWRR) held in Budapest, Hungary, where they discussed the latest research findings in the fields of cellular immunology, pain, tissue damage, immune tolerance, autoinflammation and autoimmunity.

“By the cooperation agreement between the University of Debrecen and South Dakota State University, a new era starts in the history of our institution”, said Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of the University of Debrecen, upon signing the partnership agreement. In addition to the provost of South Dakota State University, the chargé d’affaires of the United States Embassy also attended the signing of the agreement on the establishment of a joint degree program on Thursday.
