He graduated summa cum laude in 1991 with a degree in General Medicine from the University of Debrecen. Since graduation, he has continuously worked at the University of Debrecen, initially at the 1st Department of Internal Medicine and later at the Institute of Internal Medicine. He is a board-certified specialist in internal medicine (1996), cardiology (1998), and clinical pharmacology (2013). He also holds specialist qualifications in hypertension and diabetology. In 2001, he obtained a qualification as a healthcare economist-manager. He earned his PhD in 2002, completed his habilitation in 2008, and has been a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 2014. He was appointed as a university professor in 2014.
Since 2013, he has been the Director of the Coordination Centre for Drug and Food Development at the University of Debrecen. He has been a member of the leadership of the University’s Clinical Centre since 2014—serving as cabinet member, Vice President from 2017 to 2022, Acting President from August 26 to December 31, 2020, and Deputy President since January 1, 2021. Since 2019, he has been the head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen. From 2025, he has been the President of the Federation of the Hungarian Medical Societies (MOTESZ) and the elected President of the Hungarian Society of Hypertension.
