Franz-Ulrich Hartl
Professor Franz-Ulrich Hartl was born in Essen and grew up in Germany. He completed his medical studies at the University of Heidelberg in 1982. He then successfully habilitated at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, University of Munich in 1990. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, University of Munich from 1985 to 1986 and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1989 to 1990. From 1987 to 1995 he became group leader at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, University of Munich. Between 1991 and 1997 he received different appointments at Sloan-Kettering Institute, New York in its Cellular Biochemistry and Biophysics program. Between 1994 and 1997 Professor Hartl also served as an associate investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In 1997 Professor Franz-Ulrich Hartl became the Director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Biochemie, Martinsried, Germany.
